The first quarter of the year 2017 i.e. April – June, witnessed the inauguration of the Chenani Nashri Tunnel by the Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi on 5th April 2017. This tunnel, which is India's longest road tunnel equipped with world-class safety features, is an excellent project execution by IL&FS Transportation Networks Limited (ITNL) with the innovative financing arrangements undertaken by IL&FS Financial Services Limited (IFIN). It has garnered prime importance for Jammu and Kashmir as it is believed to be the gateway of development and tunnel of hope for the people of the state.

The cover story of this edition will take you through the incredible journey of constructing Chenani Nashri Tunnel – an engineering marvel in the beautiful geographic landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, was built in the record time of four years. The story gives insights into the technical, financial and architectural nuances that makes Chenani Nashri as one of the smartest tunnels in the South East Asia region.

Our MD & CEO – Mr. Ramesh C. Bawa talks about the important events that occured in the first quarter, viz., completion of three years of the central government on 26th May 2017, reiterating the focus on various economic reforms undertaken by the NDA government and its impact on the Indian economy. He also mentions the government's focus on reviving the banking sector with the introduction of NPA ordinance and Bankruptcy Code, which will provide thrust to the resolution of bad loans.

This edition has some industry experts sharing their thoughts and views on CSR and social media aspects which can enhance longevity of the business. Ms. Karin Huber (Founder and Managing Director of CSR and Communication) emphasising on the importance of CSR for a sustainable business growth, whereas Ms. Benita Bhatia Dua (CEO of Vanilla Skills) highlights on three social media platforms every CEO must actively use.

Under the new leadership section, we have Ms. Kate Kwan (CEO – Hong Kong), who speaks about her leadership style and vision for the company.

Women entrepreneurs from the interiors of Gujarat who undertook the Women Entrepreneurship Development Programme (WEDP) and today are running their businesses with grit and confidence rising from the shadows of poverty and backwardness. Around 200 women have been trained under the programme and it aims to reach many more women in the future. Read more in our Impact section.

We recently observed World Environment Day on June 5, 2017 at IFIN's offices with our top management, leading the charge by planting saplings in our premises to nurture our surroundings for a sustainable growth and sending out strong message to all the employees that the organisation care about the environment and let's "Connect with Nature".
