“I have often dreamed of a far off place, where a hero's welcome would be waiting for me, Where the crowds will cheer when they see my face, And a voice keeps saying, this is where I'm meant to be, I'll be there someday, I can go the distance, I will find my way if I can be strong, I know every mile, will be worth my while, When I go the distance, I'll be right where I belong” – Sung by an American, Singer-Songwriter

I Run for Fun: An IL&FS Initiative and Intent

Running symbolizes freedom, endurance, acceptance, satisfaction and dreams coming to life. It’s not about the finish line. It’s not about long or short distances. You do it for yourself, because you can. You can either run from your dreams or run towards them. We choose to follow our dreams.

For the past four years, IL&FS IFIN has organised and been the key sponsor for a serious-to-fun running-event, ‘I Run for Fun’, dedicated to all fitness enthusiasts. What started as an initiative for only the IL&FS Group companies with participation of just 1000 people from its location in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai, it has become a grand success and the result of which has made the event organisers now extend its platform to other parts of the city as well.

The popularity of this run has expanded steadily over the years and has witnessed participation from employees of banks, financial institutions, corporate establishments and even individuals who simply love to run for the joy of it, making it a unique one-of-its-kind run. What better way to promote physical fitness and healthy living, in an atmosphere of camaraderie and friendship.

Every year in the month of February, the IL&FS building is converted as the start and finish points for the 5km and 10km category runs, which has attracted die-hard competitors, as well as occasional fun-runners. With a thumping success and much fanfare in its 4th Edition, which concluded on 21st February 2016, I Run for Fun witnessed participation of 5000+ participants from various walks of life.

Partnering with us are our co-sponsors: Yes Bank, Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and Indian Oil; CNBC and BIG FM Radio with the media and PR coverage, and the Naman Group as the hospitality partner. One of the key highlights of this event is the exclusive 1-2km short distance race for children with disabilities. Aimed to raise awareness and funds, bulk of the earnings is shared with our non-profit charity partner ADAPT (Able Disabled People All Together), formerly known as the Spastics Society of India. Seeing the children smile through their heart during the race and experiencing the thrill and joy of racing, many participating individuals feel a renewed sense of purpose.

Certificates, medals and more

If you participate in this event, you receive a medal. Individuals covering a distance of 10km receive certificates from the district Athletics Federation of India and the same can be used as qualifiers for long distance marathons. Stocked with assortments of running items in the runner goodie bags, the race attracts individuals from three categories- open, veteran and senior veteran, for both men and women. Serious and enthusiastic runners from the senior group, come with their respective cheerleading squad of family members and well-wishers. The preparation for this starts months in advance and seeing it culminating into a mega Sunday event with hoards of cheering crowd, event organisers and managers who are constantly available to help and keep things on track, brings a sense of fulfilment and pride for all present. Thanks to social media with their constant Tweets, Facebook and Instagram updates, in creating a buzz and generating curiosity.

IL&FS is hopeful that this event will continue gaining visibility within the financial and corporate sector. This has proved to be a great platform in creating a stronger bond and team spirit amongst employees within and off campus, and keeping them driven in their personal and professional endeavours.
